Hello –

The crazy weather continues – inconsistent, unreliable, like an intemperate youth; and, the wind is a ghost playing peekaboo, ethereal at times and then bold – battering the clapboard, a midnight nightmare when one is alone in the house and the staircase creaks with heavy footfall.

Shall I venture forth or shall I hide under the covers? What would you do?

I headed to the Gatineau to test the legs and the lungs.

I ask myself, “Why had I waited so long?” Fear of failure, like a hesitant first kiss delayed until it was past doing. Seize the moment now. Age crawls then gallops then all is dust.

Too soon, it’s only a memory. We long for youthfulness but time locks the door that has no key. And, in the seventh age, “Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything“.

(Shall I) wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.”

Okay, this notification has two parts:

  • 7:00 am Stinsons G1 riders 114kms/915m Refer to MMR Link
  • 7:30 am Stinson G2 riders 80 kms approx with Neil and Kevin

G1 – the proposed ride will begin at 7 am from Stinsons and will take us to Barrett Chute via Burnstown and Calabogie. The return trip will be via Norton and Pucker. This is a superb route and will test everyone.

Coffee/water stop The Neat Cafe (is a possibility).

This is a rock and roll event. You’ll be talking about it for a long time.

G1 riders see MMR Link: https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/4502598850

Re G1: Saturday’s ride will be ridden at a suitable effort to ensure everyone completes the ride together. The rollers will give us all we can handle at this stage of our training.

FYI, the Barrett Chute Rd is a quiet stretch of road; it’s paved and undulating and a real treat to cycle. It’s also an out and back section of road. You won’t be disappointed.

For old timers, this route is a variation on our rides to Mountain Chute but it avoids Dump Hill, and the rough Hydro Dam Rd, and the steep climb up Mountain Chute Rd. All to say, if you like riding a bicycle, you’ll really enjoy the Barrett Chute Rd.

  • Bring sufficient food/drink.
  • NB: G1 7:00 am Start
  • NB: G2 7:30 am Start

Important Stuff July 17/21 – G1

But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head (grown slightly bald) brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet — and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid. tse
