Hello –

We were missing our usual numbers this morning. It appears that the July holiday season is upon us and the troops have taken flight to various parts of the country and province searching for fertile ground for adventure, like milkweed parachutes in a meadow, strewn by a young boy to the four winds, and beyond. Where will they land?

Still, there were six enthusiastic riders waiting at Stinsons and a lone rider waiting patiently at the Valley Carver. Delight and guffaws abounded as we pulled over for a brief chat and a “How Do You Do. Didn’t know you’d be here. That’s fantastic. We’ve got quorum now. Let’s rock”. You just should have been there!

What followed was a 96 kilometre breakfast platter of high energy riding, with a side plate and second helpings aplenty. Lots of fun but the body needs relief. Sugar won’t help, apparently.

Insulin resistance in ‘older’ riders was the topic du jour, with MB advancing a theory of starvation. Well, maybe, that’s not quite how MB put it. The point is that old guys have difficulty using glucose from blood for energy and their muscles thereby are starved for fuel to fund the athletic effort. Volunteers are requested for trial studies! Insulin shots available at the start for those interested.

So, Sunday’s cycle will be a G2 ride, meaning a moderate pace, relatively easy effort, social ride. G1&2 will ride together for the duration.

NB: Wind and waves and TWN offer conflicting reports on the wind. One says SE/SSW and the other says W. Route may change depending upon actual conditions.

  • Bring sufficient food/drink.
  • NB: 7:30 am Start
