June 06/20: Seven Riders; 109.7 kms; 3 hours 18; 527 metres

Well, we modified the route in light of the heavy winds and cut it short by 10 kilometres. Good job, too, because the pace was a tad fast. We were all happy to turn for home on the Queensline at Kohlsmith, where we got the benefit of a super tailwind. It was full on from there to Stinsons. Along the way, we rode great pavement on Johnston Rd and Sandpoint; and, the Queensline itself, is something special with a following wind. In the end, I was happy to reach home base before collapsing. Need rest and nutrition (lots) for tomorrow’s ride. You’ll just want to be there! I hope you can make it.

Life slips away, like dripping water from a kitchen tap, inconsequential but lost forever, like Cinderella’s slipper but with no happy ending.

“Man’s condition. Inconstancy, boredom, anxiety.” bp

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.      Derek Walcott
