Hello there –

Well, the TDB felt like a non-event this year. It just didn’t have the usual vibe. No early morning coffee service, a smaller than usual registration, and a shortened 100 km route because of road construction. There was food aplenty, and the weather and conditions were perfect. It’s hard to know what was missing but there was no magic. Now, that’s not taking anything away from the efforts of the organising committee but it was a bit of a dud. Expectations birth anticipation and sometimes deliver disappointment. But, all in all, this is a querulous comment. The road is not always straight, thank goodness.

We did have a good ride. It was rather intense right from the get-go. We jumped on Gear-Head’s Rapidio Train. It was full steam ahead. The firebox was overcharged with young-uns, ready and able to stoke the engine. We held our ground, which is to say we barely hung-on as they rode with force for thirty kilometres. Yet, I knew that once we reached the long gradients at Brudennell Rd, we’d have their measure; and, we did. They caught us on the downs but eventually the climbs came fast and furious and we pulled away. Thank goodness for that because GH gang were kings and queens on the flats and rollers. You know, you just should have been there.
