Hello, how are you? It’s close, real close now. And, I don’t mean the ambient air, although that’s brutal to-day. You know what I mean. We’re down to the short strokes, and my body is feeling it big time. Found that out this morning when I ran to town. It’s not that far, really; but, I was hurting. Legs were fine but my heart rate wouldn’t respond to the effort required, telling me I needed rest, real soon. With that in mind, and thinking you’re in a similar state, I’m proposing shorter rides this weekend – 85 kms on Saturday and 72 kms Sunday. We’ll see. Hope you agree.

At this point, there is nothing to be gained by going hard. Instead, the emphasis is maintaining our current level of fitness, reducing fatigue immediately – all in aid of arriving at the big weekend in top-notch form.

So, the plan tomorrow is to ride Tempo, which is just below Lactate Threshold. In other words, hard enough but not real hard. Here’s a definition:

“Riding tempo means riding steadily. It does not mean riding at a constant speed, half-wheeling or killing it at the front. Riding Tempo means riding at a constant effort – that’s, at a constant effort not at a constant speed; your average power minus 5%.”

Regarding the verses, poems, and quotations found in this blog, these may not always reflect my point of view, especially the ones with a spiritual and religious quality, and which intimate the hereafter. Atheist that I am, I do however like to graze in what appears to be the barren and fallow lands (and that includes biblical and christian writings) in search of apophthegms; and, like the bovine and sheep and horse and other ruminants snipping a sweet blade of grass found singly among the rocks and hard ground, I take a bite. Or to change the metaphor, I inhale the fragrance of the rose and try to avoid the hidden thorns. Sources matter but they don’t all have the same authority.

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for a 7:30 am 7:30 7.30 am start and ride to Almonte for Coffee at the Equator after 46 kms. Route via W-L Rd, Conc 10, Pakenham, Dwyer Hill, Panmure, Marshwood Rd (soem gravel), Vaughn, Burnt Lands, Hwy 49 to Almonte; home via Martin Rd, Cnty Rd 20, Dwyer Hill, etc. Toal 84 kms and 346 Metres.

Caveat: Route is tentative and is depends upon rider consensus, the turnout, and the weather.

For those with time constraints, there are many options to cut it short. Don’t miss out, just because the route is longer than you have time for. Weather:  11C – 19 C; Sunshine; winds N 22.
