Hello. Well, am I mistaken or was that another week of summer-like weather. If this keeps up, I’ll doff my arm warmers – really. What a treat to leave the house in the morning and not feel any chill on the legs/arms, or around the ears. Admittedly, the heavily shaded areas are coolish. Yet, up the road, I see the sun beckoning with a sprinkling of light, confirming that this will be another first-rate morning to ride my bicycle. I hope you have been fortunate enough to take advantage of this sea-change in the weather to ride your bike.

Early mornings are best, I find, before the real world is awake and busy about it’s business. Happily, for some, those work days are long ago, and only half-remembered now – hazy, like a dream one can’t quite recall. Yes, the myriad occurrences of a life are like the ebb and flow of the diurnal tide – throwing the mundane, the unremarkable, and very occasionally the startling on the seashore. We should therefore ever be wakeful to the unexpected and walk barefoot on the sand – alive to the mystery around us before the next tide carries it and us away into eternity.

Here’s the tentative plan for Saturday: (subject to rider consensus)

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 am 7:30 am start and ride to Starbucks for coffee (km 63); home via Old Carp Rd, 2nd Line, etc. for a total ride of 112 kms. This is a variation of Rob’s Route except that we leave Stinons on White lake Rd, Conc 10, Waba, Pakenham, #20, Stonecrest, etc. See map. Note that the return route is not shown in detail.

This route is middling flatish but with rollers and some small climbs but nothing serious. If you like Old Carp Rd and Stonecrest Rd, you’ll be in an earthly paradise. Ask yourself, “Where else would you rather be?” Our training goal is to gain power and strength and to build upon our existing endurance base.

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road.

Weather: 18 – 23 C, sunny; winds NE at 10; POP 20 %

Caveat: All this subject to change based upon the turnout and the weather and rider consensus.
