May 20/17: 122 Kms; 4 Hrs 16; 1292 Metres; Nine Riders

Hello,  Hola, Guten Tag, Namaste, Salaam – you get the idea.

Well, that was a grand effort over a demanding course, made all the more difficult by the NE wind and a pace that kept us pedalling hard to hold the wheel in front. Yes, we worked and we grimaced but nothing could suppress the joy of living in the physical moment. High intensity exercise pays dividends. We cashed in to-day. You just should have been there. To be alive is a beautiful thing.

Here’s the tentative plan for Sunday:

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 7:30 am start and ride to Carp for coffee with Alice. Route via White Lake Rd, Young’s Side Rd, 10th line, Barr Side Rd, Waba Rd, Pakenham, Blakeney, Panmure Rd, Donald B Munro, Carp for coffee (Mi porta il menù?) at 45 kms; home via Cnty Rd 5, Thomas Dolan, Stonecrest, Galetta, Dwyer Hill, etc. for a total distance of approx 91 kms.

This route will provide another test for the legs. We can adjust the pace accordingly; plus, the distance is less than a 100 kms. Also, we’ll benefit from the east wind at some point, unlike to-day when it was a battle regardless of the direction.

As for the terrain, it’s a mix of flat and low-grade climbs, with some bumps on Panmure, a steep incline out of Pakenham, and when we turn onto Thomas Dolan from Carp Road. Stonecrest is a jewel, provided one has the energy and punch to enjoy the rollers. Galetta Side Rd will require oomph to get us to Old Hwy 17. From there, it’s a breeze, assuming we’ve legs enough to finish in style. You’re gonna love it!

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road. “A group ride is not a race. If there’s no number on your back, it’s not a race.”

Weather: 7 – 17 C , winds east at 20.

Caveat: All this subject to change based upon the turnout and the weather and rider consensus.

Ask yourself, where else would you rather be?

To Be Alive

To be alive: not just the carcass
But the spark.
That’s crudely put, but…
If we’re not supposed to dance,
Why all this music?    (Gregory Orr)
