NB: No coffee stop until 103 kms into the ride. Bring bars, gels, water, gummy bears, etc for on-bike fuel!

To-day’s safety question: Is your bike fit – Are the nuts/bolts/screws tight? Are skewers correctly positioned (at the front, slightly behind the fork, say 1 or 2 o’clock; at the back, at an angle that bisects the seat and chain stays)? Are brakes rubbing against the rim? What about tyre pressure? Are bottle cage bolts snug?

Okay, who am I? Too many questions… . Da che pulpito viene la predica!

I suppose a hello and how are you would be nice. So, buona sera.

That was a good week, I think. Dry anyway, if windy, warm, hot, and cool at times. That’s spring in May in eastern Ontario, looking back to March one day and forward to mid July the next.

But, what about tomorrow’s ride? Before we start, we must begin with a destination. That’s true of life in general. But, what drives destination? Purpose. For us, it’s cardio fitness, strength, and power; and these, all point in the direction of hill climbing.

So, the flats tomorrow will be as few-and-far between as one hundred-dollar bills in my wallet.

You’ll thank me afterwards but not so much during the ride. Why?

Well, here’s the tentative plan for Saturday, when I expect there will be a high turnout:

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Rd for 7:30 7:30 am start and ride to the top of Pucker and Norton/34 via Campbell Side Rd to Valley Carver, Lochwinnow, Gillan, Barnett, Raglan, Pucker to Norton/34; home via Pucker to the Burnstown Rd to Barnett to Gillan, Goshen, #508, Stewartville, Kippen, Creekside, Maughlin, McLeod, Neat Cafe (101 kms) for coffee (Mi porta il menù?), White Lake, Waba Rd, 10th Conc to WL Rd back to Stinsons for a total 0f 130.

Now, that’s the bad news; or, most of it. We’ll face a NE wind on the homeward leg. The good news is there are escape routes for those with time constraints. In other words, you can circle back to Stinsons at several points. You have options.

As for the terrain, it will satisfy your desire for climbing, unless you prefer the Gats. Total elevation gain should be in excess of 1200 metres. That’s a guess. FYI, one loop of the Gats is about 1100 metres. But, that’s all within 42 kms vs the 131 km route proposed above.

As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road. “A group ride is not a race. If there’s no number on your back, it’s not a race.”

Weather: 5 – 14 C , winds north-east at 15.

Caveat: All this subject to change based upon the turnout and the weather and rider consensus.
