September 04/16: 92 Kms; 2 Hrs 57; 501 Metres; Ten Riders

A heavy, wet fog almost scuppered the ride this morning. It made for challenging conditions as we rode old Hwy 17 to the Galetta Side Rd. It didn’t get better there but we did have an extended shoulder, affording some peace of mind. But, by the rise in the road just past Logger’s way, we entered a world of brilliant sunshine. There were hosannas up and down the pace-line, and an offer of renewal to extend the tour director’s contract. But, he held out, knowing that Stonecrest road would surpass all expectations. And, it did, with smooth pavement and rolling terrain adding greatly to the pleasure of the morning’s experience. Utterly delightful. Unfortunately, the long line-up for coffee at Alice’s dampened spirits and left us deprived of our morning joe. This disappointment played out in a frenetic scramble to Fitzroy Harbour on County Road 5, making this part of the ride a race and not just a high tempo pace. You just should have been there.

Here’s the tentative plan for Monday, assuming wind is from the south-east:

As for the ride, it won’t suit everyone because the planned route is short and the anticipated pace will be decidedly down market. Now, that’s an invitation to new riders to join us. We’ve had two harder days and now it’s time for an easier ride. Why, we’ll be drinking coffee after twenty kilometres. As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow. If there is a large turnout and some of the others would like to go further/faster that’s fine. I’m not. FYI.

Meet at Stinsons at 7:30 am 7:30 am and ride to Pakenham for sweet buns and coffee. Route via White lake Road to Meyer Road, Conc 9 to Waba Road to Pakenham; home via Hanson Side Road and Dwyer Hill or via Kinburn and Logger’s Way etc. for a total distance of 35 – 50 Kms.

NOTE the Venue and Time: Stinsons on White Lake Rd 7:30 am, sharp departure.

Temperature will be in the low teens; wind SE at 10. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides, except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all. New cyclists welcome.
