August 06/16: 96 Kms; 3 Hrs 03; 971 Metres; Eight Riders

Well, that was immensely more fun than doing hill repeats. Do you remember last Sunday’s ride. I’ve tried to wipe it from my memory. This morning, we had the same training effect, mostly. The young lads were in fine form and dragged us around the circuit in quick order. Youth trumps age. That’s just the way it is. It was a no-holds barred ride. Pucker was both a challenge and a delight; #508 was a slog into a cross wind; and, the run home on White lake road was full-out. Thankfully, the red light at the Madawaska Bridge let us catch our breath, briefly, before Joe and Sam hit the accelerator for Stinsons. At this point, there were a couple of kilometres left in the ride. That was good news because we were all feeling heavy in the legs. You just should have been there.

Here’s the tentative plan for Sunday’s disport, assuming winds are from the north-west:

Meet at Stinsons at 7:30 am 7:30 am and ride to Renfrew via Campbell Dr, Braeloch, Stevenson, Lochwinnow, Gillan, all, Opeongo, S. Mcnaughton, Butler, Hwy 60 to Tim’s on Bruce St; home via Whitton, Gillan, Lochwinnow, Thompson, RR, etc. for a total distance of 85 – 90 Kms+-.

NOTE the Venue and Time: Stinsons on White Lake Rd 7:30 am, sharp departure.

Temperature will be in the low twenties; wind north-west at 15. Who wouldn’t want to ride in that?

As for the ride, it’s a slight gradient to Braeloch; a short, sharp snap up to the Valley Carver. That’s about it. It’s a pretty flat ride. The NW wind will be a challenge but we should get more relief than to-day on the homeward leg. The total distance should be less than 90 kms. Coffee at 60 kilometres, I think. As usual, it’s steady as she goes, with minimal delays on the road. Bring gels, bars, water, electrolytes, etc. Liquids will be a key element tomorrow.

Alert: Important information: These are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style), except for the hills where it’s every man for himself. Regroup at the top. Honest effort required by all. New cyclists welcome.
