Sept 19/15: 61.5 Kms; 2 Hrs 06; 372 Metres; Six Riders

Okay, as I always say “the tentative plan is” such and such. Well, this morning we hedged our bets and changed the route because of the threat of rain. In the end, it probably didn’t matter because the weather held for at least an hour after our arrival back at Stinsons. The original route would have been fine but that is hindsight. I appreciate everyone’s flexibility in these last-minute changes. And, really, that is the essence of these rides. One has to embrace and accommodate the group dynamic. It is not for everyone but on balance it works. I especially appreciate the good nature and cooperative spirit of those who live out-of-town and have to drive to the Start Venue.

Well, that was a bit of rock-and-roll intermixed with many kilometres of easy pedalling. But, isn’t it the time of year to kick back and ease the effort since there is nothing on the calendar but snow. Why rush towards it? It’s mellow-yellow time until then. Now is Now. And, it’s not easily held, and not for long. We catch it briefly on the bike.

Yes, Fall is definitely in the air. You can feel it in the wind and in the crunch of scattered leaves under wheel. There’s nothing like riding a bicycle to centre you in the moment – awake and in wonder. Is there any better place? You really should have been there this morning.

Okay, here’s the tentative plan for Sunday:

Meet at Stinsons at 8am 8am on White Lake road and ride to Renfrew via Campbell Drive and Stevenson, Lochwinnoch, Gillan, etc. for coffee at Tim’s; home via Pinnacle and Garden of Eden and Castleford, RR, etc. for a total distance of approx 80 kms (that’s a guess).

Sunny skies and temperature in the low teens C; winds NW at 15.

Just a reminder to new comers, these are ‘no-drop’ group rides. It’s steady as she goes (conversational style) and easy on the legs. If you have had thoughts of joining us and weren’t sure about the pace or the distance, then, here’s your chance. You’ll love it. We all do.

Just a reminder to always CHECK this blog onn weekend mornings by 7am for any last-minute notifications. FYI, if you follow the blog, you’ll get updates automatically.

Neil passed this link on about next year’s GrandFondo (July 2016). Special rates for early entrants. It is a bit early to commit but the discounts are substantial. Check it out here: & here

Okay, Ride your bike! Bye bye, ac. Comments always welcome at;

Had I Not Been Awake’

Had I not been awake I would have missed it,
A wind that rose and whirled until the roof
Pattered with quick leaves off the sycamore

And got me up, the whole of me a-patter,
Alive and ticking like an electric fence:
Had I not been awake I would have missed it

It came and went too unexpectedly
And almost it seemed dangerously,
Hurtling like an animal at the house,

A courier blast that there and then
Lapsed ordinary. But not ever
Afterwards. And not now.
