June 14/15: 78 Kms; 2 Hrs 29; 398 Metres; Five Riders.

Well, that was another special ride, giving a whole new meaning to the blog-post adjurement “steady and easy as she goes.” But, with no pressure on the pedals, the pace was quite manageable. And, of course, the shorter distance meant that we didn’t need any reserve energy for later-on. A big thanks to Perry (did I say that) for the pulls. We kept it together nicely and even had a leisurely coffee (in the way of GS) at Palms in Almonte.

The ride home was marvellous, aided as it was by a favourable tail wind. Or, at least, it was until a couple of lads in a Dodge Ram truck threw a bottle of Gatorade at us, hitting Jeff’s bike, and just stopping short of toppling him. Luckily, the bottle hit the headset square on and not the front wheel. This all happened on county road 17 – a back, lightly travelled, rural road. Unfortunately, we had no opportunity to grab a licence plate number. Heads-up everyone. We live in an age in which some people act irresponsibly, without any consideration for the consequences of their actions. As such, they are self-centred, brain-addled yahoos lacking in empathy.

“But, when I behold a Lump of Deformity, and Diseases both in Body and Mind, smitten with Pride, it immediately breaks all the Measures of my Patience; neither shall I ever be able to comprehend how such an Animal and such a Vice could tally together. JS

Okay, that’s it. Let’s hope for gentle winds and warm weather in the coming weeks. What if we were to ride to breakfast at Pine Lodge next Saturday. That’s the Quyon circuit – 105 kms+/- from Old Orchard. Just throwing the idea out there. Obviously, we want good weather for this. Nothing definite planned as of now. Also, next week is the MMBM tour from Almonte. We will see what is of interest to everyone.
