Hello and welcome to a new cycling season. It has been a slow start this year what with zero degree weather and stiff north-west winds as we approach the end of April. Unrelenting winter has taken spring hostage with nary an offer to negotiate. It’s a standstill. We will cycle on in winter booties and knee-highs and thick gloves just the same.

Look forward to seeing you all again for our first official group ride. Hope you can make it even though the conditions will be less than desirable. Still, we must begin the long journey to road-fitness. The RLCT is only weeks away and we have just five weekends to train for it. That got your attention, didn’t it? Got mine.

Well, first a couple of things to remind you about: I’m the co-coordinator of these rides by default. My role is to facilitate getting the word out to like-minded cyclists for weekend rides. Someone has to do it, I guess. And, it has fallen to me for the past several years. The rides/routes themselves on any given weekend are subject to consensus and subject to change based upon the weather and the opinions of those present on any given day. In other words, it is an informal arrangement.

If you haven’t done so already, please read The Disclaimer Page. Please ride a clean bicycle and one that is mechanically fit for the road. Your safety is your concern. The group’s safety is your concern. Please ride accordingly.

Okay, so, what is the tentative plan:

Meet at Stinsons on White Lake Road at 10 am. Ride to Renfrew via White Lake, Waba, Campbell Side Road, White Lake, Burnstown, Renfrew for coffee at the Bonnechere or Tim’s; home via Pinnacle and garden of Eden and RR. Total distance estimated to be <100 kms. Lots of hill work, stiff wind on the outward journey but we should be able to sail home, I hope.

The pace should be for base riding only. No need to go crazy. The wind will be our whip. That’s enough. Weather as of now is to be 4 C at 10 am with 20 km winds from the n-w. How fun is that.

I have no idea who will show up, if anyone will at all. If you have an opinion on alternative options, please get in touch.

Okay, bye, bye. ac. Comments welcome at arnpriorcycling@bell.net and http://www.twitter.com/ArnpriorCycling
