July 27: 87 Kms; 2 Hrs 50; 292 Metres; 3096 Calories. Jeff, Perry, Peter, Raymond, Keith, Rob, Tim, Andrew, Mike G.

Okay, so we had a variation of the county fair tractor-pull on Clayton Road this morning, when a big powerful hay wagon travelling at 40 kms/hr pulled Keith, Perry and Andrew all the way to the t-junction at Tatlock Rd. It doesn’t get much better than this. The temperature, the wind, the route, the variety of terrain (Peter’s quizzical cry, ”where the ……….. are we?” said it all), the gentle climbs, the rush of water at Blakeney bridge, the overall pace–including the Blakeney Road (new pavement) mad sprints with Perry, Keith, Raymond, and Andrew leading the charge only to be nullified by Rob and Jeff, pulling the rest of us back to the front. Here it would all begin again, with first one then another of us thinking foolishly that we could outpace the collective effort of the others. It was a game of leapfrog. Why, I even had a go and was deluded enough in the effort to think I had broken away. Not so. The first shall be last, a truism if ever there was one in cycling. You just should have been there. And, you can on Sunday—well, maybe not because the weather outlook is grim, with a high probability of rain and thunder showers. It is these rather than the rain that pose the problem. This will be a last-minute call. Please check the blog in the morning. I expect to post an update around 6am. As of now, I would say there will be no group ride.

But just in case the plan would be to meet at Stinsons 7.30 am 7.30 am. Route to be determined at the last-minute.

Okay, thanks to everyone for making to-day’s ride so much fun and for riding safe. It is really great to see eight to ten eager riders at Stinsons on the weekends: not to be missed!
